North Coast Music Festival Lineup Preview

North Coast Music Festival is on its 7th year at Union Park in Chicago, Illinois. Each year the festival grounds feature three stages and a silent disco, as well as two art galleries.

North Coast is about more than just the music, The Living Gallery brings graffiti artists from all over the world to paint live at the festival. There is also a pop up gallery bringing you a range of different kinds of artists. From painters, to art installation extraordinaires, to LED craftsman, and so many more.

This festival is put on through a collaborative effort of local promoters and has a special place in the city of Chicago’s heart. North Coast is known for it’s diverse music lineup, bringing you the perfect blend of all genres.

Friday:

Deadmau5 & Eric Prydz

Electro house producer Deadmau5 is headlining Day 1 of North Coast Music Festival along side Swedish producer Eric Prydz. Both Deadmau5 and Eric Prydz have been in the electronic game for over a decade. 

This isn’t the first time the duo has performed together, the two have played at Electric Zoo Tomorrowland and Creamfields as well.

Bonobo (Live)

Bonobo often tours solo performing DJ sets and residencies, but this year at North Coast he is playing live. Bonobo (Live) means he will be taking the stage with a band and vocalists to give a different kind of performance than he usually does when he’s by himself.

Bonobo creates an eclectic style of music that can’t fit in to one genre. He creates downtempo beats with melodic, serene, natural sounds to create unique, progressive electronic music.

Lettuce

Lettuce is a band full of funk and energy. Their trumpet and saxophone player bring a particular spark to the band. Many of their members have been playing together for over 20 years since the band was formed in 1994. This band is a diverse group of new age funk.

Saturday:

Damian “Jr Gong” Marley

As you can tell by the famous last name, Damian is the youngest son of reggae legend Bob Marley. Following in his father’s footsteps, and becoming a reggae artist as well, Damian’s music is uniquely his own. Marley has described his music as dancehall and reggae with hip-hop infused elements.

STS9

Sound Tribe Sector 9 is a jamtronic band whose sound is based on instrumental rock and electronic music. STS9 is known for pushing musical boundaries. Their music will take you on a journey in to a different dimension. You will be flowing through time and space with their psychedelic melodies.

The Russ Liquid Test

The Russ Liquid Test is a project where electronic and saxophone artist Russ Liquid teams up with guitarist Andrew Block and drummer Deven Trusclair. Together they form a different kind of musical act that’s bound to get your booty shakin.

Sunday:

Tipper

Tipper is noted as being a pioneer in the EDM world. His sounds have helped bring in new and popular music genres called Nuskool Breakbeat and Glitch Hop. Tipper has gained huge recognition and is in high demand not only in the festival scene but also for his overall talents in sound design.

Tipper sets can usually be broken down in to uptempo or down tempo. His uptempo sets are specifically comprised of upbeat, dance music. While his downtempo sets feature more chill tempos and melodies.

Ween

The legendary rock band is making an appearance at North Coast this year. Ween has been around since the late 1980’s. They are primarily rock n roll but have the ability to play different styles such as country and funk music. This genre bending band is on their own playing field.

Primus

Primus brings you in to an overwhelmingly new musical environment while opening your mind to a new spectrum of sounds. Primus goes beyond the music and creates a theatrical experience.

The bassists and front man, Les Claypool is one of the most notable bass players around the world, combining techniques from all styles of music. The way Claypool plays bass is unlike any other.

Ganja White Night

Ganja White Night is an electronic music duo whose influences are found at the roots of “Bass-Music”. While also taking influences from different kinds of electronic music as well as hip-hop, Ganja White Night is all about the wubby bass and brings you a flowy, creative style of bass music .

Late Night Radio

Late Night Radio or Alex Medellin is earning a name for himself though his innovative electronic music style. His music combines all different kinds of instruments and sounds, giving you chill uplifting beats that keep you moving. The originality of Late Night Radio is something you don’t want to miss.

North Coast Music Festival is a one of a kind inner city festival, it’s an immersive experience that celebrates the merging of all music and walks of life.
