Bob Marley Classic Gets Feel-Good Dance Music Makeover

Vicetone takes on a Bob Marley classic with their latest mix, and yes, it is indeed love.

It’s a big risk remixing an icon like Bob Marley.

When an artist steps dips into his music, it is scrutinized and picked apart with die hard fans scouring every note, every lyric, every minute change. They are quick to point out the flaws, voicing their unapologetic opinions, however scathing they may be.  To many, his music is sacred ground.  It’s very easy to fall short of the perfection of a Bob Marley classic when you take on a cover or remix.

As a Bob Marley fan myself, I am quick to judge these covers and mixes, skeptical of the artist’s ability to capture the magic that he seemed to effortlessly pour into his music.  Vicetone, thankfully, does not disappoint.  Their mix of “Is This Love” stays true to the original, maintaining the integrity of Marley’s song.  It is immediately distinguishable as a Marley song, but with a sweet house twist.

Thanks to the distorted vocals and perfectly timed builds and drops, it brings a classic reggae tune to a new audience.  The intro has the beautiful vocals we expect of Marley, and it brings a smile immediately to your face.  As we come into the chorus, the tempo picks up and a light bass beat drops in.  This is the kind of song that you can’t help but sway to, smiling with the first notes.  It’s hypnotic,  playful, and the perfect feel-good  song.

Vicetone says:

“Remixing Bob Marley was one of the most exciting and challenging projects thus far for us. Our goal was to have this legendary track appeal to today’s dance music community, while keeping the feel and emotion of the original song alive. It’s a track that works well at a big festival, in a club, or just for casual listening purposes and that’s why we are very happy with it!”

The Norwegian duo have been steadily climbing the ranks of popular DJs since 2012 with their mixes of favorites like Adele, Zedd, and Maroon 5, combined with their original singles like “What I’ve Waited For” and “United We Dance,” which was used as the soundtrack for 2014’s Ultra Music Festival aftermovie.
