Andrew Rayel Exclusive Interview – Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas 2014

Described by many as the modern day Mozart, Andrew Rayel has been exploding on to the trance scene. The product of a little known country known as Moldova, Rayel is a classically trained musician who has taken his talents and invested them in the production of electronic dance music, an investment that has surely been paying its dividends.

Having studied orchestral music and began producing at the young age of 13, Rayel has continued to evolve his skills while establishing a unique sound know for powerful pianic melodies, harmonic balance, and pure euphoria.

With the release of his first studio album Find Your Harmony right around the corner, Andrew Rayel is ready to take his career to the next level. His performance at Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas 2014 will be his biggest yet and he has no signs of slowing down.

We had the chance to sit down with Andrew Rayel the night before his big performance and discuss his choice for album title, inspirations, and future plans.

thatDROP: Congratulations on the new album.

Andrew: Thank you so much. I’m so excited to have finally released my first album and I really hope that everyone likes it.

thatDROP: No doubt they will. Why the album title Find Your Harmony and what does the album title mean to you?

Andrew: The album title means a lot to me. I didn’t want to release an album with a simple name. I wanted it to have special meaning; to reflect our journey through life. Whether that is finding your love, your music your destiny, Find Your Harmony is about finding what excites you the most.

thatDROP: You are getting ready to play on the Basscon Stage at Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas tonight. What’s on your mind as you prepare for the biggest performance of your young career?

Andrew: When I found out I was playing EDC Vegas it was one of the most exciting moments of my year. I had always heard stories about EDC Las Vegas so from the moment I found out I would be performing I began preparing some special things. I did a lot of edits and special tracks for tonight. I’m also going to play many songs from my album and fans can expect to hear a lot of new things and special surprises.

thatDROP: What were some of your personal and musical influences growing up?

Andrew: I started when I was really young. It began listening to the radio with my brother. I heard a ton of tracks from Armin Van Buuren and ATB and that is when things really started.  I was going to school for music and was always creating melodies in my mind. I never knew, at the time, where this was going to go and I heard Armin’s tracks and knew that was the direction I wanted to go. He was always one of my biggest influences and still is to this day. His tracks just make me feel excited.

thatDROP: What inspires you in life and makes you feel most alive, not just in music, but in general?

Andrew: As of now what inspires me most are my shows. I wish I had a studio behind the stage so I could jump straight from the stage to the studio. Those are the moments when I am ready to create 10 tracks. I always try to remember the feeling of being on stage so I can keep the ideas flowing and get that excitement to produce more music.

thatDROP: Who are some of your favorite musicians to listen to?

Andrew: First of all I’m a musician and not a DJ. I know many people started as DJs performing in clubs and, at some point, realized they had to start producing. I started as a producer and realized ‘Why should other DJs have to play my music when I can share it with the people?’ I love all kinds of music; classical music like Hans Zimmer who produce amazing tracks for movies and in general. I’m always a fan of rock music such as Linkin Park. I can listen to everything and any kind of music with a good melody.

thatDROP: What is something interesting about you that most people would not know?

Andrew: I’m a big fan of art. I also paint really well. I have always been in to art and design.

thatDROP: Would you ever consider opening your own gallery?

Andrew: (laughs) Maybe one day.

thatDROP: Have you ever done the art for your albums?

Andrew: I’m very involved in the process. I always give input as to what I like but I prefer things to come out simple and not get too complicated.

thatDROP: What are your plans for the rest of 2014 and what should we keep an eye out for?

Andrew: I will be promoting my album. Right now we are working on a European tour. I will be playing all of the major festivals including Tomorrowland and TomorrowWorld. I will be going to Ibiza. I have a tour with Armin lined up. Basically a lot of new stuff and new gigs. I hope everyone is able to join me for one show and experience the Andrew Rayel sound.

thatDROP: Any thing you want to leave your fans with?

Andrew: Thank you to everyone who has supported for me and I hope I can share my love and my music with them as they continue to support me.

thatDROP: And if that doesn’t work out you always have your art career!

Andrew: Exactly!
